Where does the name Tina come from?

Tina started as a short form. Behind the Name says it comes from Christina, Martina and other names ending in -tina, and that it is also used in Dutch for Catharina, in Swedish and Croatian for Katarina, and in Georgian for Tinatin. Wikipedia adds that in Arabic tinah means “fig”. It was not widely used as an independent given name until the 1940s and 1950s, when Wikipedia says the films The Old Maid (1939) and Now, Voyager (1942) and the 1955 song “Tina Marie” helped it catch on.

Other forms of Tina

Tina is already a nickname, so its relatives are mostly spellings. Wikipedia lists Teena and Tena as modern English variants, Tiina in Estonian and Finnish, and Tine in Danish and Norwegian, while Behind the Name gives the Dutch diminutive Tineke.

Well-known Tinas

Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock, was dubbed the “Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll”, broke racial and gender barriers in rock music, and sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Tina Fey, whose full first name is Elizabeth Stamatina, was a head writer on Saturday Night Live and has won ten Primetime Emmy Awards and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor (2010). And Australian singer Tina Arena has sold more than 11 million records and records in English, Italian, French and Spanish.

Tina’s popularity

Tina is a 1960s and 1970s name. US Social Security data has it 124th in the 1950s, then 31st in the 1960s, when more than 126,000 American girls were named Tina, and 29th in the 1970s. A notebook for every Tina

Tina’s Notebook works just as well for a teenager as for a grandmother. It’s 6" x 9", which fits in most bags, with 160 lined pages and no printed layout to work around. Use it as a diary, a school notebook, a planner or a place to collect quotes and ideas. A name on the cover turns an everyday notebook into something personal.

Why choose a personalized notebook?

A plain notebook is useful. One with her name on it is a gift. Seeing “Tina’s Notebook” on the cover tells Tina it was chosen for her, not grabbed off a shelf, and that small touch is often what makes people keep a notebook going instead of abandoning it after a week.
