Christina's Notebook is a lined journal with one name on the cover, hers. The name sits in flowing script above a soft pink watercolor apple blossom design.
Christina comes from Christiana, the Latin feminine form of Christian. Behind the Name says it was the name of an early, possibly legendary, saint, and of a 17th-century Swedish queen who gave up her crown to become a Roman Catholic. In the English-speaking world its French form Christine was more popular for most of the 20th century, but Christina eventually overtook it.
Christina has more nicknames than almost any name. Chris, Chrissy and Tina are the everyday ones, and Behind the Name also lists Christie, Christy, Kristen, Kirsten, Krista and Kiki. Its close relatives include Christine and Kristina.
Christina Rossetti wrote “Goblin Market” and the words of the carol “In the Bleak Midwinter”. Christina Aguilera started on The All New Mickey Mouse Club and topped the US charts with “Genie in a Bottle”. And Queen Christina of Sweden reigned from 1632 to 1654 and is remembered as one of the most learned women of the 17th century.
Christina was a 1970s and 1980s name. In US Social Security data it climbed from 175th in the 1950s to 16th in the 1970s, and it was 18th in the 1980s, when more than 146,000 American girls were named Christina. It was 40th in the 1990s and left the top 200 after the 2000s.
“In the Bleak Midwinter” began as a poem by Christina Rossetti, published as “A Christmas Carol” in January 1872. Gustav Holst set it to music in 1906, and Harold Darke’s later setting is just as loved. Queen Christina, meanwhile, gave up the Swedish throne in 1654 and moved to Rome. She is one of only three women ever buried in the Vatican Grottoes under St Peter’s Basilica.
This is a notebook for every kind of Christina: the student, the list-maker, the diary keeper, the busy mom. Its 160 lined pages and 6" x 9" format suit daily journaling, study, meal plans, goals or gratitude notes. Plain lines mean no rules about how to use it. Her name on the front makes it easy to spot on a crowded desk.
Notebooks tend to multiply on desks and in drawers. One with Christina’s name on the front is instantly hers: easy to spot, harder to “borrow”, and more personal than a plain cover. For children especially, seeing their own name on something makes it special and encourages them to actually use it.
How big is Christina’s Notebook? The notebook measures 6 x 9 inches (roughly 15 x 23 cm) and has 160 lined pages.
