Rhonda's Notebook is a lined journal with one name on the cover, hers. The name sits in flowing script above a soft pink watercolor apple blossom design.
Rhonda is a 20th-century name. Behind the Name says it is probably a blend of the sounds of Rhoda and Linda, perhaps also influenced by the Rhondda Valley in South Wales and the British feminist Margaret Mackworth, Viscountess Rhondda. Wikipedia derives it from Rhondda, a Welsh name. Behind the Name adds that it was rare at first, began to catch on in the mid-1940s with actress Rhonda Fleming, and peaked in the United States in 1965.
Rhonda is short and punchy, so there is little to trim. Behind the Name lists Ronda as its variant, and the Beach Boys used that spelling on their first recording of “Help Me, Rhonda”. Wikipedia’s list of Rhondas also points to Ronda and Rhondda as related names in their own right.
Rhonda Fleming, born Marilyn Louis, acted in more than 40 films and was nicknamed the “Queen of Technicolor” because she photographed so well in color; she later founded a women’s clinic and a cancer resource center at UCLA. Bluegrass singer Rhonda Vincent, dubbed the “Queen of Bluegrass”, started playing mandolin at eight, won a Grammy in 2017 and joined the Grand Ole Opry in 2020. And Australian Rhonda Byrne wrote The Secret.
Rhonda is a baby-boom name. US Social Security data has it entering the top 200 at 74th in the 1950s, a high first entry, and reaching its best rank, 44th, in the 1960s, when more than 93,000 American girls were named Rhonda. It was 86th in the 1970s before leaving the top 200.
The Beach Boys’ Rhonda was not a real person. Wikipedia says Brian Wilson wrote “Help Me, Rhonda” with extra lyrics by Mike Love, and Al Jardine sang lead. The re-recorded single topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965, knocking the Beatles’ “Ticket to Ride” from the top spot.
This is a notebook for every kind of Rhonda: the student, the list-maker, the diary keeper, the busy mom. Its 160 lined pages and 6" x 9" format suit daily journaling, study, meal plans, goals or gratitude notes. Plain lines mean no rules about how to use it. Her name on the front makes it easy to spot on a crowded desk.
Notebooks tend to multiply on desks and in drawers. One with Rhonda’s name on the front is instantly hers: easy to spot, harder to “borrow”, and more personal than a plain cover. For children especially, seeing their own name on something makes it special and encourages them to actually use it.
How big is Rhonda’s Notebook? The notebook measures 6 x 9 inches (roughly 15 x 23 cm) and has 160 lined pages.
