Give Mila a notebook that's unmistakably hers. Mila's Notebook has her name in elegant script over a pink watercolor apple blossom cover.
Mila comes from the Slavic element milu, meaning “gracious, dear”, says Behind the Name. It began as a short form of longer names containing that element. Wikipedia adds that Mila is a Slavic name from Central or Eastern Europe, built on names that begin or end with mila.
Behind the Name lists Milanka and Milka as Serbian and Croatian variants, with relatives such as Milena and Milada in Czech and Mylène in French.
Mila Kunis was born in Chernivtsi, then in the Soviet Union, in 1983. Wikipedia says her family moved to Los Angeles in 1991, when she was seven, on a religious-refugee visa. She played Jackie Burkhart on That ’70s Show from 1998 to 2006, has voiced Meg Griffin on Family Guy since 1999, and earned Golden Globe and SAG nominations for Black Swan (2010). She also played the Wicked Witch of the West in Oz the Great and Powerful (2013).
Mila is one of the fastest risers on the list. US Social Security data has it at 50th in the 2010s, when more than 44,100 American girls were named Mila. It did not reach the top 200 in any earlier decade. It is popular abroad too: Behind the Name shows it 21st in New South Wales, Australia, 10th in Belgium and 6th in Croatia in 2025.
Mila has roots in several languages at once. Wikipedia says that in Spanish it can be short for Milagros, “miracles”; in Arabic it relates to Mayla, a large tree with slanting branches; in Turkish it is short for Almila; and it can even be a Tibetan name linked to the yogi Milarepa. There is also a Mila Province in Algeria.
Mila’s Notebook works just as well for a teenager as for a grandmother. It’s 6" x 9", which fits in most bags, with 160 lined pages and no printed layout to work around. Use it as a diary, a school notebook, a planner or a place to collect quotes and ideas. A name on the cover turns an everyday notebook into something personal.
A plain notebook is useful. One with her name on it is a gift. Seeing “Mila’s Notebook” on the cover tells Mila it was chosen for her, not grabbed off a shelf, and that small touch is often what makes people keep a notebook going instead of abandoning it after a week.
How big is Mila’s Notebook? 6" x 9", or about 15.2 x 22.9 cm. It’s a paperback with 160 lined pages inside.
