Bella's Notebook is a lined journal with one name on the cover, hers. The name sits in flowing script above a soft pink watercolor apple blossom design.
Bella is a short form of Isabella and other names ending in -bella, says Behind the Name, and it is also linked to the Italian word bella, “beautiful”. Isabella is a Latinate form of Isabel, and Behind the Name says it was the top girls’ name in America in 2009 and 2010.
Behind the Name lists Bell, Belle, Izzy, Issy and Mabel among Bella’s relatives. Belle is the French word for “beautiful”, Wikipedia adds.
Bella Abzug, nicknamed “Battling Bella”, was born in New York City in 1920 and earned a law degree from Columbia in 1944. Wikipedia says her first campaign slogan, in 1970, was “This woman’s place is in the House—the House of Representatives.” In 1971 she co-founded the National Women’s Political Caucus, and in Congress she was rarely seen without one of her bright hats. She later presided over the 1977 National Women’s Conference.
Bella is a 2010s favorite. US Social Security data has it at 53rd in the 2010s, when more than 43,200 American girls were named Bella. It had not reached the top 200 in any earlier decade.
Behind the Name says Stephenie Meyer used the name for the heroine of her Twilight novels, first published in 2005 and filmed from 2008. Wikipedia says Isabella “Bella” Swan moves to her father’s home in Forks, Washington, at 17 and falls in love with the vampire Edward Cullen. Kristen Stewart played her in the films. The four novels, Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, are told mainly from Bella’s point of view.
This is a notebook for every kind of Bella: the student, the list-maker, the diary keeper, the busy mom. Its 160 lined pages and 6" x 9" format suit daily journaling, study, meal plans, goals or gratitude notes. Plain lines mean no rules about how to use it. Her name on the front makes it easy to spot on a crowded desk.
Notebooks tend to multiply on desks and in drawers. One with Bella’s name on the front is instantly hers: easy to spot, harder to “borrow”, and more personal than a plain cover. For children especially, seeing their own name on something makes it special and encourages them to actually use it.
How big is Bella’s Notebook? The notebook measures 6 x 9 inches (roughly 15 x 23 cm) and has 160 lined pages.
