Where does the name Kinsley come from?
Kinsley comes from an English surname, says Behind the Name, taken from a place name meaning “clearing belonging to Cyne”. Cyne is an Old English short form of names beginning with cyne, “royal”. Wikipedia says Kinsley is a transferred use of an English place name and surname, and there is still a village called Kinsley in West Yorkshire.
Other forms of Kinsley
Behind the Name lists Kensley and Kinslee as variant spellings. Kins and Kinny are easy pet names, but most Kinsleys keep their whole name.
Well-known Kinsleys
The best-known Kinsley in history was a man. Wikipedia says Kinsley Scott Bingham (1808 to 1861) served as a US representative, a US senator and the 11th governor of Michigan, the first Republican governor in the state’s history. Today Kinsley is a top-100 name for American girls.
Kinsley’s popularity
Kinsley is a fast riser. US Social Security data has it at 125th in the 2010s, when more than 26,300 American girls were named Kinsley. Wikipedia says it first entered the US top 1,000 for girls in 2005 and has been in the top 100 since 2016. Behind the Name says it ranked 93rd in 2025.
A few more things about Kinsley
Kinsley overtook the names that probably inspired it. Behind the Name says Kinsley was very rare as an American girls’ name before 1990, and may have caught on thanks to similar names such as Kinsey and Ainsley, both of which it has since passed. Wikipedia adds that Kinsley is notably more common in rural states than in urban areas, and that its spelling variants are also well used. In England, meanwhile, Kinsley is still the name of a former mining village near Wakefield.

A notebook for every Kinsley
Kinsley’s Notebook works just as well for a teenager as for a grandmother. It’s 6" x 9", which fits in most bags, with 160 lined pages and no printed layout to work around. Use it as a diary, a school notebook, a planner or a place to collect quotes and ideas. A name on the cover turns an everyday notebook into something personal.
Why choose a personalized notebook?
A plain notebook is useful. One with her name on it is a gift. Seeing “Kinsley’s Notebook” on the cover tells Kinsley it was chosen for her, not grabbed off a shelf, and that small touch is often what makes people keep a notebook going instead of abandoning it after a week.
