A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Jordyn. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Jordyn is a feminine variant of Jordan, says Behind the Name. Jordan comes from the river that flows between the countries of Jordan and Israel. Its Hebrew name, Yarden, comes from yarad, meaning “descend, flow down”. Jordan was revived as a given name in the 19th century and became fairly popular in America in the second half of the 20th.
Behind the Name lists Jordan, Jordana, Jordanna and Jordin as variants, and Jordie and Jordy as diminutives. Jordy is a fun choice for a sporty Jordyn.
Gymnast Jordyn Wieber was born in DeWitt, Michigan, in 1995. Wikipedia says she won the all-around title at the 2011 World Championships and helped the US team, the Fierce Five, win gold at the 2012 London Olympics. She later coached the Arkansas Razorbacks gymnastics team and was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2020.
Jordyn is a 21st-century spelling. US Social Security data has it at 167th in the 2000s and 140th in the 2010s, when more than 22,700 American girls were named Jordyn. In all, more than 43,000 girls got the name in those two decades.
The name traveled to Europe in bottles of river water. Behind the Name says Jordan was adopted as a personal name after crusaders brought water back from the Jordan River to baptize their children. Wikipedia says the river is 156 miles long and flows north to south through the Sea of Galilee into the Dead Sea; the Bible says Jesus was baptized there.
Whether Jordyn is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Jordyn on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Jordyn’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
