A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Inez. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Inez is a variant of the Spanish Inés, says Behind the Name, and Inés is a form of Agnes. Wikipedia says Agnes comes from the Greek hagne, meaning “pure” or “holy”, and its Latinized form Hagnes is the feminine of Hagnos, “chaste” or “sacred”. Wikipedia calls Inez the English spelling of the Spanish, Portuguese and French Inés, Inês and Inès.
Behind the Name links Inez to Agnes and Annis in English, Inés in Spanish, Inês in Portuguese and Inès in French. In English, Agnes also gave the pet names Aggie, Nan and Nancy.
Suffragist Inez Milholland was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Wikipedia says she graduated from Vassar in 1909, was refused by Yale, Harvard and Cambridge because she was a woman, and earned her law degree at New York University in 1912. She worked as a labor lawyer and war correspondent, and died in 1916 during a speaking tour.
Inez was a steady choice for decades. US Social Security data has it at 104th in the 1900s, 107th in the 1910s and 147th in the 1920s, when more than 17,500 American girls were named Inez. It was in the top 200 from the 1880s to the 1920s.
An Inez rode at the head of a famous parade. Wikipedia says that in 1913, on the eve of President Woodrow Wilson’s inauguration, Inez Milholland led the Woman Suffrage Procession in Washington wearing a crown and a long white cape, riding a large white horse named “Gray Dawn”. Behind the Name lists name days for Inez on March 6 in Hungary and August 6 in Sweden.
Whether Inez is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Inez on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Inez’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
