Eliza's Notebook is a lined journal with one name on the cover, hers. The name sits in flowing script above a soft pink watercolor apple blossom design.
Eliza is a short form of Elizabeth, says Behind the Name. Elizabeth comes from the Hebrew Elisheva, “my God is an oath”, and Eliza has been used as a name in its own right for centuries. Behind the Name notes it was borne by Eliza Doolittle in George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion (1913) and the musical My Fair Lady (1956).
Behind the Name lists dozens of Elizabeth’s short forms, including Liza, Lizzie, Libby, Beth, Betsy and Elsie. Liza and Lizzie fit Eliza best.
The Eliza in the Broadway hit Hamilton (2015) was a real woman. Wikipedia says Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, born in Albany, New York, in 1757, was the wife of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. She co-founded the first private orphanage in New York City and, in Washington, helped Dolley Madison raise money for the Washington Monument. Phillipa Soo originated her role in the musical.
Eliza has made a comeback. US Social Security data has it at 104th in the 1880s and back in the top 200 in the 2010s, at 182nd, when more than 17,700 American girls were named Eliza. Behind the Name says it ranked 115th in the US in 2025 and 65th in England and Wales.
Eliza Doolittle sold flowers at Covent Garden. Wikipedia says the heroine of Pygmalion is a Cockney flower seller from Lisson Grove, London, who asks Professor Henry Higgins for elocution lessons. Higgins takes her on as a wager that he can turn her into the toast of elite London society, and how the story ends depends on which version you see.
This is a notebook for every kind of Eliza: the student, the list-maker, the diary keeper, the busy mom. Its 160 lined pages and 6" x 9" format suit daily journaling, study, meal plans, goals or gratitude notes. Plain lines mean no rules about how to use it. Her name on the front makes it easy to spot on a crowded desk.
Notebooks tend to multiply on desks and in drawers. One with Eliza’s name on the front is instantly hers: easy to spot, harder to “borrow”, and more personal than a plain cover. For children especially, seeing their own name on something makes it special and encourages them to actually use it.
How big is Eliza’s Notebook? The notebook measures 6 x 9 inches (roughly 15 x 23 cm) and has 160 lined pages.
