A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Eden. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Eden comes from the biblical place name, says Behind the Name, possibly from the Hebrew ʿeden, “pleasure, delight”, or perhaps from the Sumerian edin, “plain”. In the Old Testament the Garden of Eden is where Adam and Eve lived before they were expelled. Wikipedia adds that in 15th-century Yorkshire, Eden was also used as a pet form of Edith, and that it is given to boys as well as girls.
Behind the Name lists no diminutives for Eden, and at two syllables it rarely needs one. It links Eden with the biblical name Edna, and the French write it the same way.
Eden Sher, born December 26, 1991, is an American actress, comedian and author. Wikipedia says she is best known as Sue Heck on the ABC sitcom The Middle (2009 to 2018), a role that won her a Critics’ Choice Television Award, and as the voice of Star Butterfly in the Disney animated series Star vs. the Forces of Evil (2015 to 2019).
Eden is a 2010s name. US Social Security data has it at 162nd in the 2010s, when more than 19,700 American girls were named Eden. Wikipedia says its debut in the US top 1,000 in 1986 coincided with the soap opera character Eden Capwell on Santa Barbara. Behind the Name has it 70th for US girls in 2025, 37th in New Zealand and 61st in New South Wales.
Cornwall has a real-life Eden. Wikipedia says the Eden Project was built in a reclaimed china clay pit, and its two giant domed enclosures, made of hundreds of hexagonal and pentagonal inflated cells on steel frames, each recreate a natural biome. The larger one holds one of the largest indoor rainforests in the world, and the other a Mediterranean landscape. The full site opened on March 17, 2001.
Whether Eden is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Eden on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Eden’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
