Desiree's Notebook is a lined journal with one name on the cover, hers. The name sits in flowing script above a soft pink watercolor apple blossom design.
Desiree is the English form of the French Désirée, says Behind the Name. Wikipedia says the name comes from the Latin desiderata, “desired”, and that an earlier form, Desideria, was in use in Europe as early as the 800s. The Puritans used Desire on its own as a virtue name.
Behind the Name lists Desirae and Deziree as variants and Desi and Dezi as diminutives. Older relatives include Desideria in Italian and Spanish.
Désirée Clary was born in Marseille, France, in 1777. Wikipedia says she was engaged to Napoleon Bonaparte on April 21, 1795, but went on to marry the French general Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte. When he became King Charles XIV John, she became Queen of Sweden and Norway, from 1818 to 1844, and mother of King Oscar I. Sweden officially renamed her Desideria, though she did not use it.
Desiree was a 1980s and 1990s favorite. US Social Security data has it at 140th in the 1980s and 139th in the 1990s, when more than 23,400 American girls were named Desiree. Together that is more than 45,000 girls.
A Hollywood film made the name popular in English. Behind the Name says it took off after Désirée (1954). Wikipedia says the film, shot in CinemaScope and based on Annemarie Selinko’s best-selling novel, starred Jean Simmons as Désirée Clary and Marlon Brando as Napoleon, and was nominated for Oscars for art direction and costume design.
This is a notebook for every kind of Desiree: the student, the list-maker, the diary keeper, the busy mom. Its 160 lined pages and 6" x 9" format suit daily journaling, study, meal plans, goals or gratitude notes. Plain lines mean no rules about how to use it. Her name on the front makes it easy to spot on a crowded desk.
Notebooks tend to multiply on desks and in drawers. One with Desiree’s name on the front is instantly hers: easy to spot, harder to “borrow”, and more personal than a plain cover. For children especially, seeing their own name on something makes it special and encourages them to actually use it.
How big is Desiree’s Notebook? The notebook measures 6 x 9 inches (roughly 15 x 23 cm) and has 160 lined pages.
