Give Vicki a notebook that's unmistakably hers. Vicki's Notebook has her name in elegant script over a pink watercolor apple blossom cover.
Vicki is a short form of Victoria. Behind the Name explains that Victoria means “victory” in Latin and was the name of the Roman goddess of victory, and that it was rare in English until Queen Victoria’s reign. Wikipedia notes that Vicki, Vicky, Vickie and Vick are all used as names, and that in Greece Vicky can also come from Vasiliki.
Behind the Name lists Vic, Vickie, Vicky, Vikki, Tori, Toria and Tory as relatives of Vicki. Vic is the breezy short form, and Tori is a reminder that a Vicki and a Tori can share the same full name.
Vicki Lawrence played many characters on The Carol Burnett Show from 1967 to 1978, including Thelma Harper, who went on to lead the sitcom Mama’s Family. In 1973 her single “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” reached number one in the US and Canada. Adelaide-born Vicki Cardwell was world No. 1 in squash, won the World Open in 1983 and the British Open four years running from 1980, and is in the Australian Sport Hall of Fame.
Vicki was a baby-boom name. US Social Security data has it at 122nd in the 1940s, then 61st in the 1950s, when nearly 72,000 American girls were named Vicki, and 97th in the 1960s. Behind the Name shows the same pattern elsewhere: it was in the top 100 in New South Wales in 1975 and in New Zealand in 1976. Most Vickis today are in their 60s and 70s.
Vicki Lawrence got her big break through a fan letter. Wikipedia says a local newspaper remarked that she looked like a young Carol Burnett, and her mother urged her to write to Burnett and enclose the article. Burnett found Lawrence’s father in the phone book, called him and promised to come and see her compete in a local contest.
Vicki’s Notebook works just as well for a teenager as for a grandmother. It’s 6" x 9", which fits in most bags, with 160 lined pages and no printed layout to work around. Use it as a diary, a school notebook, a planner or a place to collect quotes and ideas. A name on the cover turns an everyday notebook into something personal.
A plain notebook is useful. One with her name on it is a gift. Seeing “Vicki’s Notebook” on the cover tells Vicki it was chosen for her, not grabbed off a shelf, and that small touch is often what makes people keep a notebook going instead of abandoning it after a week.
How big is Vicki’s Notebook? 6" x 9", or about 15.2 x 22.9 cm. It’s a paperback with 160 lined pages inside.
