Tanya's Notebook puts her name front and center, written in flowing script across a soft watercolor apple blossom design.
Tanya is the Russian pet form of Tatiana, says Behind the Name, and English speakers began using it on its own in the 1930s. Wikipedia credits the popularity to Alexander Pushkin’s verse novel Eugene Onegin, whose heroine is Tatiana “Tanya” Larina. In Zimbabwe it is also short for the Shona name Tanyaradzwa, “we have been comforted”.
Tania is the main English variant, Behind the Name says. Wikipedia adds Tanja, used in German, the Nordic countries and the Balkans, the Czech Táňa and the Portuguese Tânia. The full Tatiana is always there too.
Tanya Tucker had her first hit, “Delta Dawn”, in 1972 when she was 13, and became one of the few child stars to keep her audience as an adult. Her 2019 album While I’m Livin’, produced by Shooter Jennings and Brandi Carlile, won the Grammy for Best Country Album, and she joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2023.
Tanya had its moment in the 1970s. US Social Security data has it at 164th in the 1960s, 62nd in the 1970s, when more than 47,800 American girls were named Tanya, and 134th in the 1980s. Most Tanyas today are in their 40s and 50s.
“Delta Dawn” was a hit three times over. Wikipedia says the first notable recording was Bette Midler’s, on her 1972 debut album, but it is best known as Tanya Tucker’s top-ten country hit that same year and as Helen Reddy’s US No. 1 in 1973.
Any Tanya, of any age. The 6" x 9" size is roomy enough for proper writing and small enough for a handbag or school bag. With 160 plain lined pages there’s no fixed layout, so it can be a diary, a gratitude journal, a study notebook, a recipe book or a home for to-do lists. Notebooks tend to multiply in drawers, but one with her name on the front is instantly hers.
There’s something about seeing your own name in print. It makes a notebook feel like it belongs to you, which is a good reason to fill it. It also means Tanya can pick hers out of a pile in a second, at school, at work or on the kitchen counter.
How big is Tanya’s Notebook? About the size of a trade paperback book: 6 x 9 inches (15.2 x 22.9 cm), 160 lined pages.
Where do I buy it? It’s sold on Amazon in the US, Australia and the UK. Amazon prints and ships each copy and handles delivery and returns.
Do you have other names? Yes, the same apple blossom design comes in hundreds of girls’ names. Start at all name notebooks or our personalized name notebooks guide.
