A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Scarlett. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Scarlett comes from an English surname for a person who made or sold scarlet cloth, says Behind the Name. Wikipedia says scarlet was a luxury wool cloth in medieval Europe, and the name is linked to the bright red color. Margaret Mitchell made it famous with Scarlett O’Hara.
Behind the Name lists Scarlet and Scarlette as variants. Scar and Lettie are pet forms families invent, though the sources do not list them.
Scarlett Johansson made her film debut in North (1994). Wikipedia says she won a BAFTA for Lost in Translation (2003) and also starred in Girl with a Pearl Earring that year. Her films as a leading actress have grossed more than 15.4 billion dollars, making her the third-highest-grossing actor in history. She has also won a Tony Award, and she was the world’s highest-paid actress in 2018, 2019 and 2025.
Scarlett is a modern favorite. US Social Security data has it at 30th in the 2010s, when more than 58,200 American girls were named Scarlett. Behind the Name says it was not common until it started rising around 2003, about when Johansson’s career was taking off.
Scarlett O’Hara was nearly called Pansy. In the novel she is born in 1845 on Tara, her family’s plantation in Georgia. Wikipedia says Margaret Mitchell used “Pansy” in early drafts of Gone with the Wind and chose “Scarlett” just before the book went to print; the character is named after her grandmother. Mitchell won the Pulitzer Prize for the novel in 1937, and Vivien Leigh won an Academy Award playing Scarlett.
Whether Scarlett is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Scarlett on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Scarlett’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
