A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Lisa. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Lisa began as a short form of Elizabeth and its cousins in other languages, though it has long been used as a name on its own. Elizabeth goes back to the Hebrew Elisheva, “my God is an oath”. The most famous Lisa of all is Lisa del Giocondo, the Florentine noblewoman whose portrait by Leonardo da Vinci we know as the Mona Lisa.
Lisa is already a nickname, so most Lisas keep it just as it is. Related forms include Liza, Lise and Leesa, and the fuller versions Elisa and Elizabeth. In German and Scandinavian countries, Lisbeth and Liesl come from the same root.
Besides the Mona Lisa’s Lisa del Giocondo, there’s Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe Buffay in Friends, and Lisa Simpson, the saxophone-playing, straight-A middle child of The Simpsons. Each, in her own way, has made the name instantly recognizable around the world.
Lisa was the name of the 1960s. It was the top-ranked girls’ name in the US from 1962 to 1969, and the Social Security tables put it at number 1 for the 1960s as a whole, with nearly 500,000 Lisas born, and 6th in the 1970s. It was a hit in the UK too, reaching 5th there in 1974. Most Lisas are now in their 50s and early 60s.
In the United States, Lisa was more popular than Elizabeth, the name it came from, every year from 1958 to 1978. In the UK it was still 14th a decade after its 1974 peak, but had left the top 100 by 1996. And the Mona Lisa, her famous namesake, was commissioned by Lisa del Giocondo’s husband.
Whether Lisa is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Lisa on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Lisa’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
