A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Kristin. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Kristin is the Scandinavian form of Christina, according to Behind the Name, and Wikipedia calls it a variation of Christine. Both go back to the Latin Christianus, “a Christian”. Wikipedia says Kristin was the seventh most popular name for girls born in Iceland between 2000 and 2004. It is closely tied to Kristen, which Behind the Name lists as an English variant.
Behind the Name lists Kirsten, Kjersti, Stina, Stine and Tina as Norwegian variants, Kiki as a German diminutive, and Kristen, Kristyn and Krysten as English spellings. Tina is the classic short form, and Kiki the fun one.
Dame Kristin Scott Thomas won a BAFTA for Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for The English Patient (1996). Kristin Chenoweth won a Tony Award in 1999 for playing Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, originated Glinda in Wicked, and won an Emmy for Pushing Daisies. Fun fact: Wikipedia says she was born Kristi Dawn Chenoweth.
Kristin is a Gen X and millennial name. US Social Security data has it entering the girls’ top 200 at 158th in the 1960s, rising to 74th in the 1970s and peaking at 43rd in the 1980s, when more than 70,000 American girls were named Kristin. It was still 116th in the 1990s, so most Kristins are now in their 30s, 40s and 50s.
Kristin has a Nobel Prize novel. Wikipedia says Sigrid Undset’s trilogy Kristin Lavransdatter (The Wreath, The Wife and The Cross, 1920 to 1922), set in medieval Norway, formed the basis of her 1928 Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded “principally for her powerful descriptions of Northern life during the Middle Ages”.
Whether Kristin is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Kristin on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Kristin’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
