Isabelle's Notebook is a lined journal with one name on the cover, hers. The name sits in flowing script above a soft pink watercolor apple blossom design.
Isabelle is the French form of Isabel, says Behind the Name. Wikipedia explains that Isabel began as the medieval Spanish form of Elisabeth, from the Hebrew Elisheba, and spread to England in the 13th century. Spanish speakers heard the first syllable of Elisabeth as the article el and dropped it, and the ending shifted toward bella, “pretty”.
Behind the Name lists Bell, Belle, Isi, Issy and Izzy as English pet forms, and Isabeau as an old French variant. Isabel and Isabella are the close cousins, so an Isabelle often hears all three.
French actress Isabelle Huppert has made more than 120 films. Wikipedia says she is the most nominated actress in the history of the César Awards, with 17 nominations and two wins, for La Cérémonie and Elle. Elle also brought her an Academy Award nomination, and she has won Best Actress at Cannes twice.
Isabelle has had two American eras. US Social Security data has it in the girls’ top 200 from the 1880s to the 1910s, then back at 101st in the 2000s, when more than 32,800 American girls were named Isabelle, and 105th in the 2010s. It came back alongside Isabella and Isabel.
French sailor Isabelle Autissier was the first woman to sail solo around the world in a race, the BOC Challenge of 1990-91, Wikipedia says. In the next edition her boat was dismasted about 900 nautical miles south of Adelaide, and on January 1, 1995, she was rescued by a helicopter from the Australian navy frigate HMAS Darwin.
This is a notebook for every kind of Isabelle: the student, the list-maker, the diary keeper, the busy mom. Its 160 lined pages and 6" x 9" format suit daily journaling, study, meal plans, goals or gratitude notes. Plain lines mean no rules about how to use it. Her name on the front makes it easy to spot on a crowded desk.
Notebooks tend to multiply on desks and in drawers. One with Isabelle’s name on the front is instantly hers: easy to spot, harder to “borrow”, and more personal than a plain cover. For children especially, seeing their own name on something makes it special and encourages them to actually use it.
How big is Isabelle’s Notebook? The notebook measures 6 x 9 inches (roughly 15 x 23 cm) and has 160 lined pages.
