Christy's Notebook is a lined journal with one name on the cover, hers. The name sits in flowing script above a soft pink watercolor apple blossom design.
Christy is a diminutive of Christine, Christina and other names beginning with Christ, says Behind the Name. Wikipedia traces the family to the Greek Christos, “anointed one”, and Christiana, “follower of Christ”. In Ireland Christy is usually a boys’ name, but elsewhere it is mostly given to girls.
Behind the Name lists many relatives, including Christie, Christi, Chrissy, Chrissie, Kristy, Kristie and Krista. Chris and Kris work for any of them.
Christy Turlington was born in Walnut Creek, California, and Grace Coddington of Vogue called her “the most beautiful woman in the world”. She became one of the supermodels of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Wikipedia says she was the face of Calvin Klein’s Eternity in 1989 and again in 2014. She went on to found Every Mother Counts, a nonprofit dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.
Christy peaked in the 1970s. US Social Security data has it at 71st in the 1970s, when more than 44,500 American girls were named Christy, and 149th in the 1980s. Many Christys today are in their forties and fifties.
Christy is also a famous novel. Wikipedia says Catherine Marshall’s 1967 book follows 19-year-old Christy Huddleston, who volunteers to teach in the Appalachian village of Cutter Gap, Tennessee, in 1912, and was inspired by Marshall’s mother, Leonora Whitaker, who taught poor children in the mountains. It was made into a TV series in 1994, and notes for a sequel were found 34 years later. Christianity Today ranked it 27th among 50 books that most shaped evangelicals.
This is a notebook for every kind of Christy: the student, the list-maker, the diary keeper, the busy mom. Its 160 lined pages and 6" x 9" format suit daily journaling, study, meal plans, goals or gratitude notes. Plain lines mean no rules about how to use it. Her name on the front makes it easy to spot on a crowded desk.
Notebooks tend to multiply on desks and in drawers. One with Christy’s name on the front is instantly hers: easy to spot, harder to “borrow”, and more personal than a plain cover. For children especially, seeing their own name on something makes it special and encourages them to actually use it.
How big is Christy’s Notebook? The notebook measures 6 x 9 inches (roughly 15 x 23 cm) and has 160 lined pages.
