A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Theresa. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Theresa is an English form of the Spanish and Portuguese name Teresa. Behind the Name says it was first recorded as Therasia, borne by the Spanish wife of Saint Paulinus of Nola in the 4th century, and that the meaning is uncertain: it may come from Greek theros (“summer”), therizo (“to harvest”), or from the Greek island of Therasia. Wikipedia notes that Teresa, Theresa and Therese are closely related forms of the same Iberian name.
English nicknames for Theresa include Tess, Tessa, Tessie, Terry, Terri and Tracy, and Behind the Name also lists Teri, Terrie, Tracey, Traci and Tressa. Abroad she becomes Thea in Danish and Norwegian, Tere in Spanish, and Trees in Dutch, so a Theresa has short forms in several languages.
Theresa May served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2016 to 2019, the second woman to hold the office. Actress Theresa Russell has appeared in films for more than four decades, including Black Widow (1987). And Thérèse of Lisieux, often called Theresa in English, was a French Carmelite nun canonized in 1925 and later named a Doctor of the Church.
Theresa rose through the mid-20th century. US Social Security data has it 74th in the 1920s, then climbing to its best rank, 39th, in the 1950s, and its biggest count in the 1960s, when more than 97,000 American girls were named Theresa. It left the top 200 after the 1980s, so most Theresas today are in their 40s and older.
Queen Victoria’s granddaughter Princess Victoria of Hesse had a daughter named Princess Alix, but the family also used Theresa in German royal circles. Closer to home, the English spelling with an h (Theresa) and the Spanish spelling without it (Teresa) have long lived side by side in the US, which is why SSA decade tables track them as two different names.
Whether Theresa is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Theresa on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Theresa’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
