A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Meagan. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Meagan is a variant of Megan, says Behind the Name, and Megan began as a Welsh diminutive of Margaret. Margaret comes from the Latin Margarita, from the Greek margarites, “pearl”. Outside Wales, Megan has only been used regularly since the middle of the 20th century.
Behind the Name lists Meg as the diminutive, and Megan, Meghan, Meaghan and Maegan as variant spellings.
Meagan Good was born on August 8, 1981, in the Panorama City neighborhood of Los Angeles. Wikipedia says she was cast in her first film, Friday, at 13, and won attention as Cisely in Eve’s Bayou (1997). She went on to Stomp the Yard, Think Like a Man and Anchorman 2, and played the superhero Darla in Shazam! (2019) and its sequel. Her father is a Los Angeles police officer, and her mother managed her career into her teens. In 2024 she co-produced and starred in Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black.
Meagan peaked with the Megan boom. US Social Security data has it at 172nd in the 1980s and 175th in the 1990s, when more than 17,100 American girls were named Meagan. Behind the Name says it ranked 94th in Canada in 1994.
Meagan’s root word is a pearl. Behind the Name traces Margaret, the name Megan grew out of, to the Greek margarites, “pearl”, probably borrowed from an Indo-Iranian language. Saint Margaret of Antioch, the patron of expectant mothers, was said in later legends to have escaped from a dragon, and medieval artists often painted her with one.
Whether Meagan is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Meagan on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Meagan’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
