A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Lori. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Lori is a diminutive of Laura, Lorraine and other names beginning with Lor. Behind the Name says it rose rapidly in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s, peaking at 8th for girls in 1963. Wikipedia describes Lori as a female given name and a variant of Laura and Lorraine, used widely enough that many Loris never think of it as a nickname at all.
Lori is already short, but Behind the Name lists Lorie, Lorri and Lorrie as close forms, plus Lorinda. Because Lori often stands in for Laura or Lorraine, some Loris also answer to Laurie, Laura or Rain as family nicknames.
Lori Loughlin played Rebecca Donaldson on Full House and later appeared in the Garage Sale Mystery films. Lori Petty starred in A League of Their Own, Free Willy and Tank Girl. And Lori Singer played Ariel Moore in Footloose (1984) after earlier work on Fame.
Lori is a mid-century rocket. US Social Security data has it 79th in the 1950s, then 15th in the 1960s, when more than 176,000 American girls were named Lori, and still 32nd in the 1970s. It left the top 200 after the 1980s, so most Loris today are in their 40s, 50s and 60s.
Lori’s climb was unusually steep: Behind the Name notes it reached 8th place for US girls in a single year, 1963. Few nicknames-turned-given-names move that far, that fast, in the SSA tables. Laura and Lorraine were already common; Lori simply stole the spotlight for a decade.
Whether Lori is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Lori on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Lori’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
