Give Kristina a notebook that's unmistakably hers. Kristina's Notebook has her name in elegant script over a pink watercolor apple blossom cover.
Kristina is the form of Christina in several languages, says Behind the Name, whose family tree shows it in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and German use, and it is also an English variant of Christina and a Bulgarian variant of Hristina. Wikipedia calls it a feminine given name and a variant of Christina. The same family tree shows Kristýna in Czech and Kristiina in Estonian.
Kristina comes with plenty of short forms. Behind the Name lists Kris, Krista, Kristi, Kristy and Tina in English, Stina in Swedish and Norwegian, and Kiki in English and German. The French tennis player Kristina Mladenovic goes by Kiki.
Kristina Keneally, born in the United States, became the first female Premier of New South Wales in 2009 and later served as a Labor senator, including three years as Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate. Kristina Mladenovic is a former world No. 1 in doubles and a ten-time Grand Slam champion, including four French Open women’s doubles titles.
Kristina was a late-20th-century choice in the US. Social Security data has it at 99th in the 1970s and 60th in the 1980s, when nearly 46,000 American girls were named Kristina, then 119th in the 1990s. Most Kristinas today are somewhere between their late 20s and their 50s.
Kristina is also an ABBA musical. Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson wrote Kristina från Duvemåla (“Kristina from Duvemåla”), based on Vilhelm Moberg’s novels about a Swedish family emigrating to America. It premiered in Malmö on 7 October 1995 to a 10-minute standing ovation, and a concert version played Carnegie Hall in 2009. After its first American concert, in Minneapolis in 1996, the Minneapolis Star and Tribune wrote, “I have seen the future of the music theater, and its name is Kristina”.
Kristina’s Notebook works just as well for a teenager as for a grandmother. It’s 6" x 9", which fits in most bags, with 160 lined pages and no printed layout to work around. Use it as a diary, a school notebook, a planner or a place to collect quotes and ideas. A name on the cover turns an everyday notebook into something personal.
A plain notebook is useful. One with her name on it is a gift. Seeing “Kristina’s Notebook” on the cover tells Kristina it was chosen for her, not grabbed off a shelf, and that small touch is often what makes people keep a notebook going instead of abandoning it after a week.
How big is Kristina’s Notebook? 6" x 9", or about 15.2 x 22.9 cm. It’s a paperback with 160 lined pages inside.
