Irune's Notebook is a lined journal with one name on the cover, hers. The name sits in flowing script above a soft pink watercolor apple blossom design.
Irune is a Basque name meaning “trinity”, says Behind the Name. It comes from hiru, the Basque word for “three”, and was proposed by Sabino Arana as a Basque equivalent of the Spanish name Trinidad. Wikipedia says Arana believed the ending -ne was inherently feminine, and Irune carries it on the hiru root.
Behind the Name lists Hirune as a variant spelling, closer to the root word hiru. Irune is short and easy to say, so most girls with the name are simply Irune.
Irune is a footballing name in Spain. Wikipedia says Irune Murua, born in 1986, played forward for Athletic Bilbao, winning four Primera División titles, and scored twice for the Spain team that won the 2004 Under-19 European Championship. Irune Dorado, born in 2008, came through the Real Madrid academy and won the 2024 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship with Spain, then the Under-19 title in 2025.
Irune has never been an American name. It does not appear in the girls’ top 200 of the US Social Security decade tables, from the 1880s through the 2010s. Behind the Name says it last ranked 77th in the Basque Country in 2018, and 285th in Spain as a whole in the 2010s.
Irune comes from a famous list of names. Wikipedia says Sabino Arana’s Deun-Ixendegi Euzkotarra, a “Basque saint-name collection” published in 1910, offered newly made Basque versions of traditional names, such as Kepa for Peter and Koldobika for Louis. Writer Jon Juaristi has called this list perhaps the most influential part of Arana’s legacy, and names like Nekane and Garbine, built with the same feminine ending as Irune, are now common among Basque women.
This is a notebook for every kind of Irune: the student, the list-maker, the diary keeper, the busy mom. Its 160 lined pages and 6" x 9" format suit daily journaling, study, meal plans, goals or gratitude notes. Plain lines mean no rules about how to use it. Her name on the front makes it easy to spot on a crowded desk.
Notebooks tend to multiply on desks and in drawers. One with Irune’s name on the front is instantly hers: easy to spot, harder to “borrow”, and more personal than a plain cover. For children especially, seeing their own name on something makes it special and encourages them to actually use it.
How big is Irune’s Notebook? The notebook measures 6 x 9 inches (roughly 15 x 23 cm) and has 160 lined pages.
