A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Felicia. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Felicia is the feminine form of the Roman name Felicius, which comes from Felix, the Latin for “lucky” or “happy”, says Behind the Name. Wikipedia adds that the Latin felicia literally means “happy things”, as in tempora felicia, “happy times”. Behind the Name says it has been used in English, now and then, since the Middle Ages.
Behind the Name gives Lisha and Lecia as English pet forms, with Felecia and Felisha as variant spellings and Felisa as the Spanish form. Fee and Flick are other options families use, though the sources do not list them.
Poet Felicia Hemans was, Wikipedia says, second only to Lord Byron in sales in her day, and her lines “The boy stood on the burning deck” and “The stately homes of England” became classics. Actress Felicia Day created and starred in the web series The Guild and played Charlie Bradbury on Supernatural.
Felicia had a long run in the bottom half of the top 200. US Social Security data has it at 187th in the 1960s, 135th in the 1970s, when more than 22,300 American girls were named Felicia, then 139th in the 1980s and 187th in the 1990s. Wikipedia says it was a top-ten name in Sweden in the 1990s.
Felicia is also a flower. Wikipedia says Felicia is a genus of about 85 species in the daisy family, most of them from South Africa’s Cape Floristic Region, with flower heads that usually have a yellow center ringed by purple, sometimes blue, petals. So a Felicia can be given a notebook and a pot of daisies.
Whether Felicia is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Felicia on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Felicia’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
