A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Faye. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Faye is a variant of Fay, says Behind the Name. Fay comes partly from the English word fay, “fairy”, from the Middle English faie, “magical, enchanted”, and ultimately from the Latin fata, “the Fates”. It appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s chronicles in the name Morgan le Fay, and it has been used as a girls’ name since the 19th century.
Faye is about as short as a name gets. Behind the Name lists Fay and Fae as variant spellings.
Faye Dunaway was born Dorothy Faye Dunaway on January 14, 1941. Wikipedia says she began on Broadway and rose to fame playing the outlaw Bonnie Parker in Bonnie and Clyde (1967). She starred in Chinatown (1974) and The Towering Inferno (1974), and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the satire Network (1976). Her other films include The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) and Three Days of the Condor (1975).
Faye peaked in the middle of the 20th century. US Social Security data has it at 198th in the 1920s, 164th in the 1930s and 174th in the 1940s, when more than 13,700 American girls were named Faye.
Faye Wong, born in Beijing on August 8, 1969, moved to Hong Kong at 18 and briefly used the stage name Shirley Wong. Wikipedia says she became one of the biggest names in the Chinese-speaking world, and in 2000 Guinness World Records recognized her as the best-selling female Cantopop artist. In the West she is best known for Wong Kar-wai’s films Chungking Express (1994) and 2046 (2004).
Whether Faye is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Faye on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Faye’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
