A simple, pretty journal made for one person: Cheyenne. Her name is set in script above pink watercolor apple blossom on the cover.
Cheyenne comes from the Lakota word šahiyena, says Behind the Name, meaning “red speakers”. It is the name of a Native American people of the Great Plains, supposedly given to them by the Lakota because their language was unrelated. Behind the Name says it has been used as a given name since the 1950s, and Wikipedia calls it a unisex name used more often for girls.
Wikipedia gives Chey as a diminutive, and Behind the Name lists Cheyanne and Shyanne as variant spellings. Chey, pronounced like “shy”, is the short form most Cheyennes use.
Golfer Cheyenne Woods was born in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1990. Wikipedia says she is Tiger Woods’ half-niece, and her grandfather Earl Woods, Tiger’s father, was her first coach. She played for Wake Forest University, won more than 30 amateur tournaments, and took her first win on a major tour at the 2014 Volvik RACV Ladies Masters.
Cheyenne arrived in the 1990s. US Social Security data has it at 100th in the 1990s, when more than 31,800 American girls were named Cheyenne, and 138th in the 2000s. Wikipedia says it stayed in the top 450 names for girls from 2000 to 2017.
Cheyenne, Wyoming, throws one of the biggest rodeos in the world. Wikipedia says the city was founded in 1867 as a junction on the Union Pacific Railroad and named for the Cheyenne people. It is the state capital, and Cheyenne Frontier Days has been held there every year since 1897. It draws nearly 200,000 visitors each July.
Whether Cheyenne is eight or eighty, a 6" x 9" notebook is a comfortable size: big enough to write in properly, slim enough to carry. The 160 lined pages don’t come with a set layout, so she decides what it’s for. Journal, planner, class notes, recipes, travel log or doodle book all work. And with her name on the cover, nobody will mistake it for theirs.
Personalized gifts show you thought about the person, not just the occasion. A notebook with Cheyenne on the cover is affordable, useful every day and still feels special. It’s also a safe choice when you’re not sure of someone’s style, because everyone needs somewhere to write things down.
How big is Cheyenne’s Notebook? It’s 6" x 9" (about 15.2 x 22.9 cm), with 160 lined pages in a paperback cover.
